If you've ever wondered whether CPR and an AED really work, Connor Shaw is proof. The former South Carolina quarterback collapsed in September 2025 while coaching his son's flag football game in Simpsonville. He sat down with WIS and said, "It's kind of hard to believe I'm just over a year from my sudden cardiac arrest."
His nonprofit, HRTHUDL, places AEDs in public spaces and promotes hands-only CPR training. FOX Carolina reports it is partnering with Prisma Health to expand CPR education, and Prisma also donated $50,000. Bystander CPR can double or triple a person's chances of surviving a cardiac event.
